Our first concert was on March 26th 2011 and had a South American theme. Works by Astor Piazzola (Argentina), Heitor Villa-Lobos (Brazil), Ernesto Lecuona (Cuba), Maria Grever (Mexico), and de Falla (Spain) were performed by Corinne Morris (Cello), Neil Latchman (Tenor), and Yoshiko Endo (Piano).
Wines were from Chile; Argentina, snacks included Albondigas, Empanadas and Tortilla.
The second (French) concert was on May 7th with works by Berlioz, Duparc, Chausson, Faure, Franck and Hahn
The third (German and Austrian) was on July 2nd featuring the Trout Quintet, together with works by Mozart and Schumann.
The fourth concert (Polish & Czech) was on October 1st, and featured music by Chopin, Dvorak and Martinu
The final date for 2011 was November 26th, with a very English Theme: music by Malcolm Arnold, Benjamin Britten, and Gerald Finzi.
The first concert of 2012 was based on American Jazz Music, played by the Jimmy Hastings quartet.
The second was from Italy, with music by composers ending in ‘i’ such as Bellini, Verdi and the like.
The third was in June, based on Russia whose composers mostly end in ‘v’!
The next concert was in October and featured the fabulous Fibonacci Sequence playing Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.
The last concert of 2012 featured music from Scandinavia – Nielsen, Grieg, Sibelius – performed by Corinne Morris (Cello) Kathron Sturrock(Piano) and Matilde Wallevik.
2013 began on February 9th with an evening of songs from the Musicals, provided by Pippa Evans. Not in our usual format, but hugely successful.
